California buckeye (Aesculus californica)

California Buckeye Trees are endemic to California and are summer deciduous trees, meaning they will drop their leaves during dry summer months and regrow them in the winter rainy season. They tend to like wetter areas and are found on Bernal Hill, on the north bottom slope in a small grove. Their flowers are toxic to non-native bees but not to native bees and they host up to 14 moths and butterflies.
